Houlihan Smith Co-Sponsors Valuation in 2008 Panel
New York, NY (March, 2008) – Karl D’Cunha, Managing Director of Houlihan Smith & Company, Inc., (“Houlihan”) was a panelist at the Valuation in 2008: Fair Value Issues for Hedge Funds, Private Equity Funds and Corporate Transactions Seminar. The panel was hosted by Houlihan, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP on March 12, 2008 at the Penn Club of New York.
The topics addressed included: Valuation outlook and the best practice for adoption of FAS 157 – Fair Value Measurements; how the new rules on fair value will affect M&A deals for strategic and financial buyers (including hedge funds and private equity funds); hedge fund valuation issues; hedge fund redemption issues – mitigation of legal exposure; and best practices regarding valuation policy and use of independent third party valuation. Mr. D’Cunha provided insight on these topics and their market ramifications.
Mr. D’Cunha’s primary responsibilities consist of providing financial opinions including valuations, fairness opinions, solvency opinions and expert witness testimony. He is Co-Head of the firm’s Hedge Fund Advisory Services Group and a team leader of the firm’s Technical Standards Committee. Mr. D’Cunha has more than 11 years of experience in the alternative investments industry, including working with some the largest hedge funds globally on valuation, accounting and compliance issues.
