Thomas F. Means is a Managing Director at Houlihan Smith and specializes in advising middle-market and large companies on mergers and acquisitions, capital raises, operational improvement, financial restructurings and business valuations. He has over 25 years experience in the Building Materials industry, working extensively with both domestic and international companies.
Before joining The Houlihan Firm, Mr. Means headed the Columbus office for Amherst Partners, and prior to that, he worked in an executive management role involving both marketing and business development for Oldcastle, Inc. His role focused on creating a sales/marketing collaboration with over 50 enterprises in the North American market. He also worked closely on the development side with identifying new business platforms and strategic acquisitions. Today, Oldcastle is one of the largest building material companies in North America.
Previously, Mr. Means worked with Indal, Ltd, the North American building materials company subsidiary of Rio Tinto plc (NYSE:RTP and London:RIO), formerly RTZ Corporation. His role focused on sales/marketing, strategic planning and national implementation of programs throughout a base of over 5,000 customers. During the divestiture of Indal, Ltd. by RTZ, he successfully led a management buyout of one its premier divisions.
Mr. Means' experience also included helping launch products for international companies Saint Gobain (France) and Interpane (Germany) into the North American market, including the creation of a national marketing strategy, product development and assessment and creation of strategic relationships.
Mr. Means received his degree in Finance from The Ohio State University, where he was a member of their nationally ranked golf team. Mr. Means has also been a member of many national association boards related to the Building Materials industry.
